Dr. John Best is a life-long Missourian. Born and raised in St. Louis, he was later educated at the University of Missouri. While obtaining his undergraduate degree there, he achieved Phi Beta Kappa. After completing his medical degree at Mizzou, Dr. Best completed a residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiology, both at the University of Kansas. Dr. Best then entered private practice as a cardiologist at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
After serving Southwest Missouri for 15 years, Dr. Best completed a fellowship at the Quebec Heart Institute in Quebec, Canada. Afterward, he began his teaching career at the University of Missouri, where he was Assistant Professor of Medicine. While in Columbia, he was Chief of Cardiology at Columbia Regional Hospital. In 2008, Dr. Best left the University to develop a heart program at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. Dr Best was voted Best Doctor by 417 Magazine in1999 and 2008. He is a fellow in the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Angiography and Interventional Cardiology.
Dr. Best has many interests outside of Medicine: he hosted Sports Talk as the Sports Doc on KWTO in Springfield; he's served as a team physician for many in-state college teams; he was a managing partner for Busenbark Carpet, Inc.; and is the current Mayor of Bolivar, MO. His hobbies include motorcycle riding, snowmobiling, boating and bicycling. Dr. Best is married to Traci Busenbark Best, and is father of three children, Adam, Zachary and Elizabeth.
