Citizen Complaints

The Bolivar Police Department is charged with the responsibility to vigorously and thoroughly investigate alleged police misconduct. Every complaint will be thoroughly reviewed by the supervision staff. 

Depending on the severity of the claim and the circumstances, the complaint may be investigated by a command staff officer, Internal Affairs, or the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The police department's responsibility

• Receive and record your complaint
• Evaluate it for assignment
• Conduct an impartial investigation
• Make an unbiased disposition
• Correct misconduct if it was found 

The community's responsibility 

Accurately report the facts as clearly as possible to us as soon as possible after the incident.  

False complaints with specific intent to unjustly subject a police department employee to undeserved discipline or slander can place his or her employment status in jeopardy.

Complaints may be filed by using one of the following options.

• By Phone: Call us at 417-326-5298. You may request a form be sent to you via the U.S. Postal Service, or you may ask to speak with the Chief of Police.
• In person: Visit the Bolivar Public Safety Center, 211 W. Walnut Street, Bolivar. You may pick up a complaint packet or speak with the Chief of Police.
• By Mail: Mail a complaint packet request to the Bolivar Police Department, ATTN: Chief of Police, P.O. Box 9, Bolivar, MO 65613. You can also print the form below, fill it out, and mail to our office. 
• By Email: Send a message to the Chief of Police at chief [at] bolivarpolice.org (chief[at]bolivarpolice[dot]org).
