The Bolivar Police Department hopes to encourage neighborly relationships and share free fun for families and folks of all ages at this year's National Night Out!
Bolivar PD’s National Night Out event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Bolivar Recreation and Aquatic Center, 1710 W. Broadway St.
The evening will include free swimming at the aquatic center, safety demonstrations, a kids' bike rodeo, a booth fair featuring local businesses and nonprofits, free hot dogs and chips, and much more.
“We’re so excited to share this night with our community,” Bolivar PD Lt. Brian Whalen, event organizer, said. “We can’t wait to celebrate everything that makes Bolivar a great place to live and work and bring our officers together with the people they’ve sworn to serve and protect.”
Neighborhoods throughout Bolivar are invited to join over 38 million neighbors across 18,000 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, and military bases worldwide during this year’s National Night Out. National Night Out is an annual nationwide community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to help make neighborhoods safer and more caring places.
Together, the Bolivar Police Department and local residents, non-profits, and businesses are making that happen through this event.
When National Night Out began, neighbors across the nation were asked to turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement.
Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most communities now celebrate National Night Out by hosting block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, and other various community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits, and more.
