The Planning & Zoning Commission consists of nine members, including the City of Bolivar mayor and an alderman, chosen by a majority vote of the Board of Aldermen. The remaining seven members are Bolivar citizens who are appointed by the mayor and approved by a majority vote of the Board of Aldermen. Each citizen member serves a term of four years.
The functions of the Planning & Zoning Commission are outlined in the Bolivar Municipal Code and the State of Missouri Revised Statutes. They include, but are not limited to:
- Adopting a city plan, which includes the Commission’s recommendations for physical development and land use;
- Preparing a zoning map for regulation of land use and structures built within the city;
- Reviewing preliminary and final plats, zoning changes and lot splits;
- Establishing, enforcing and amending the city’s zoning regulations.
