Buildings & Inspections

In addition to a permit application, the City of Bolivar requires all commercial construction applicants to submit one initial wet-sealed set and one digital set of construction documents prepared by a State of Missouri registered architect and/or engineer for the construction performed. This includes all new, remodels, additions and infill commercial construction. 

Staff review is generally completed in two weeks. 

Once the documents are approved, staff will stamp and approve two final sets of construction documents (one set for the construction site and one for City permanent record) and will issue a permit.

Residential permit applicants are not required to submit construction documents. However, all construction must comply with the currently adopted version of the International Residential Code. 

If any drawings are prepared, they may be submitted to inform us of the intended construction. Assuming a residential permit application is approved, staff will generally issue a residential permit in 24 to 48 business hours following submission.

Building permits are also required for

• Accessory structures
• Sheds
• Garages
• Driveway aprons. 

Construction documents or shop drawings prepared by an architect, engineer, or sign contractor may be required with all permanent sign permit applications. 

If the permit application and applicable submissions are approved, staff will generally issue a permit in 24 to 48 business hours following submission.

Inspections are required for all permits we issue.

* MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) Rough-In inspections may be performed separately at the contractor’s request, or they may be done in conjunction with the framing inspection.
